The Reid Retailer of the Month this month is Cadence Cycleworks, a retailer who does it all! Being a new Reid retailer, their journey on how they got there and what they are doing for their community is a great read, so find out more below!
INTRODUCE YOURSELVES...
My name is Chris, and I own Cadence Cycle Works in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. What started as a bicycle workshop focused on repairs and custom builds has evolved over the past year into a full-fledged bike shop, catering to cyclists of all types. From versatile endurance bikes to high-performance aero machines, we offer something for everyone.
WHERE CAN YOUR STORE BE FOUND?
We are located on Burnley Road, Todmorden, one of the busiest routes for both road cyclists and mountain bikers. We're only 1km from Havok MTB Park, and our shop sits along a popular cycling route that showcases some of the most stunning scenery West Yorkshire has to offer.
WHAT DOES CYCLING MEAN TO YOU?
Cycling started as a rebellious outlet for me - riding fixed gears and embracing a counter-culture vibe. Through this, I connected with like-minded people, enjoying everything from fixed-gear crit racing to beer rides with bike messengers. For me, cycling is more than just exercise - it's freedom, adventure, and a way to challenge yourself. I've had the privilege of riding with Tour de France pros up the Stelvio, and each ride, whether competitive or casual, brings its own unique experience.
HOW DO YOU INTEGRATE WITH YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Although I've only been open for a year, I'm making strides in connecting with the community. I regularly participate in Todmorden Market, offering free bike tune-ups to keep locals on the move. Every Wednesday, I host a high-intensity chain gang ride from the shop to Halifax and back - aptly named ‘Hellifax’ - for those looking to push their limits. Soon, I’ll also launch a Sunday social ride for those wanting to enjoy the stunning landscapes of the area at a more relaxed pace.
DO YOU HAVE ANY INTERESTING STORE STORIES YOU CAN SHARE WITH US?
Interestingly, my first job in a bike shop was at Reid Cycles in Melbourne. At the time, I was purely a fixed-gear rider, but working at Reid opened my eyes to road and gravel bikes, showing me that performance bikes don't always have to come with a high price tag. It’s incredible to now see Reid Bikes in the UK, and to be part of the journey by offering quality, accessible bikes in my shop feels like a full-circle moment.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A REID RETAILER?
I’ve only been a Reid retailer for about a month, but in that short time, I’ve already sold two bikes, and the feedback has been nothing short of fantastic.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST SELLING REID PRODUCT?
At the moment, the Aquila has been the top seller. However, with Christmas around the corner, I predict the Argon will become a favourite, especially with the local kids who are all about hardtail mountain bikes.
HOW HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH REID BEEN?
My relationship with Reid goes back a long way. They gave me my first break in the bike industry, helping me launch my professional cycling career. I can’t speak highly enough of Reid - they don’t just offer great bikes, they also helped me grow both in cycling and as a professional. It feels great to be part of their journey now that they’re expanding in the UK.
FINALLY, WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE WHO ARE CONSIDERING GETTING INTO BIKE RIDING, OR PERHAPS HAVE NEVER TRIED IT BEFORE?
You don’t need the latest Di2 carbon bike - although they are amazing. Most of the people holding local Strava KOMs are probably doing it on a steel bike with standard wheels! My top advice? Wear a helmet and just enjoy the ride - you’ll be surprised where two wheels can take you.
In the Todmorden area, definitely go and check out what Reid Bikes they have or take a look here on their website!
