We are Jeff & Shari Nielsen, the owners behind what we proudly call “The Biggest Little Bicycle Shop in Texas.”. We’ve been serving cyclists here for years, building a business that’s focused on getting people rolling, whether it's for their daily commute or a breezy ride along the seawall.
Where can your store be found?
Our store is centrally located right on historic Broadway Avenue in Galveston. You can find us at 2727 Broadway Avenue J. We are perfectly positioned to serve the island community, making us easily accessible for riders exploring the many scenic routes and historic neighborhoods Galveston has to offer. What does cycling mean to you?
We’ve always believed that cycling has been our first form of transportation and, in many ways, it will be our last form of reliable and simple transportation. It represents a fundamental freedom and an accessible way for everyone to move around their community, get exercise and explore the world around them.
How do you integrate with your local community?
Integrating with the local community is a core part of what we do. We host regular local rides for all skill levels, which is a great way for new and experienced riders to connect. Our largest and most popular event is our annual Glow Ride, a spectacular, family-friendly event where riders light up their bikes and cruise through the city. It’s a wonderful tradition that we've been running for about five years now, bringing people together right here in Galveston.
How long have you been a Reid retailer?
We have been proudly partnered with Reid for about 7 years. We initially brought the brand in because we saw a real need in our market for high-quality, dependable, and stylish bikes at an accessible price point - perfect for the relaxed, coastal riding style we see here. The relationship has been strong ever since.
What is your best-selling Reid product?
Hands down, our best-selling Reid product is the Ladies Classic. It’s an iconic, stylish bike that offers the perfect blend of vintage aesthetics and modern reliability. Our customers love it for cruising the neighborhoods, beach rides, and as a comfortable, dependable everyday ride across the island.
How has your experience with Reid been?
Our experience with Reid has been excellent. They are a very easy, laid-back company to work with. This partnership allows us to confidently offer a fantastic range of products to our customers, knowing that the support, specs, and value are consistently high.
Finally, what advice would you give to those who are considering getting into bike riding, or perhaps have never tried it before?
Start simple, stay comfortable, and don't overthink it. Your best first step is to simply swing by a local shop, try a few different styles of bikes, and find the one that makes you smile. Get a good-fitting helmet, a bell, and just enjoy the ride.
We truly believe cycling offers customers the best form of freedom, a sense of self-reliance, the ability to explore at your own pace, and a connection to the world around you that you just don't get when driving a car. It's the simplest way to reclaim a little bit of independence every day.
