Ruby, tell us a little about yourself…

Hi, my name is Ruby, and I'm 19 years old. I am currently pursuing a degree in Marketing with Advertising at Bournemouth University, where I am undertaking my sandwich year placement with Reid. Having spent my entire life in Surrey, I enjoy making the most of my time in Bournemouth by exploring its beautiful beaches, discovering new places with friends, and occasionally engaging in some baking. I do like to go home and visit when I can on a weekend to spend time with my family and see my friends from home usually with a pub night catch up.

How did you get involved with Reid?

While searching for a placement opportunity, I discovered Reid and was intrigued by what the company had to offer. I was eager to step outside my comfort zone of Instagram social media marketing and acquire a diverse set of skills across various media marketing platforms. This motivated me to apply for the position, discuss my previous marketing experience, and I was thrilled to be offered the role. I am so excited about the new opportunities and skills that I will be able to gain throughout this job role and experience all the opportunities Reid has to offer me.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Being part of the Reid team has been an immensely rewarding experience, thanks to the welcoming environment that made me feel at ease from the day I started and who have already taught me a great deal. I particularly enjoy the social media aspects of my role, especially filming and editing content, as I have always enjoyed being more creative. I am also enthusiastic about being able to experience product and lifestyle shoot days, as it offers me the opportunity to observe the creation of main website content and see the final outcome of what gets created, instead of social media content which I am more use to filming.

Where do you see Reid going in the future?

I joined Reid shortly after their participation in Eurobike 2024, and listening to the feedback has shown me that this is an exciting time for the company, with many new opportunities on the horizon. I am eager to witness and contribute to Reid's continued growth during my placement here and see the development throughout my time here.

What is an average day in the life of Ruby Bayton?

I like to wake up early and ensure I am all ready for the work day before getting in my car with my coffee and lunch that I have made and head on over to the office. Once at the office, I start by checking my emails and my to-do list to see what's on the agenda for the day ahead, and usually there's always editing or creating some content for the Reid social media or blog. Once the work day is done, I head off home, take some time to unwind before making my dinner. After that, it really depends on my plans for the evening, if it's a night to myself or a night seeing friends, doing some form of activity. I do like trying to get an early night and being ready for the next day ahead, as I am still quite new to Reid, I am really trying to get in a good routine with a balance of work and social life.

How do you like to unwind after work?

To unwind after work, as soon as I get home I like being able to relax for a bit before really starting my evening, if that's going to meet up with friends or just having an evening to myself, just having a bit of time before that I find helps to start my evening off right. Then I can do things that I enjoy and want to do like going on a walk, cooking myself a nice dinner and seeing friends, if that's going to the cinema or just having a chill night in.

Finally, what advice would you give to non or novice cyclists out there?

I would say, even if it's not something that you do often or have ever done, every once in a while a bike ride, even if it's just around your local area, can be extremely fun! It is important to get outside and take in some fresh air as it can benefit both your physical and mental health. If you've never really done it before, give it a go, there's no harm in trying something new and it might surprise you as it did me.
