Martin, tell us a little about yourself…

I’ve been involved in the cycling industry for over 25 years, working as a mechanic, event support crew member, ride leader and instructor. Before joining Reid, I ran my own mobile bike servicing business alongside delivering mountain bike coaching, navigation and outdoor courses. I've also been fortunate enough to provide mechanical and logistical support on everything from local charity rides to major multiday cycling events across the UK and Europe, helping riders tackle some incredible challenges. Cycling has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I still love helping people get the most from their bikes, whether that’s preparing them for an epic adventure or simply making sure they enjoy their local rides.

How did you get involved with Reid?

I’d been following Reid for a while and really liked the company’s approach to making cycling accessible to more people. When the opportunity came up to join the team, it felt like the perfect fit. It allows me to combine my technical experience with my passion for helping riders, while being part of a growing brand that’s constantly developing new products.

What excites you about the future of Reid Bikes?

It’s exciting to be part of a company that’s growing and continuing to innovate. There’s a real focus on producing bikes that offer excellent value without compromising on quality, and I think that’s something more riders are looking for. I’m also looking forward to helping shape our technical support and customer experience so every rider has confidence in their bike.

What do you enjoy most about working in the bike industry?

It’s seeing the difference a bike can make to someone’s life. Whether it’s helping a child ride for the first time, getting someone back on the road after a repair, or supporting riders taking on incredible challenges, cycling creates amazing experiences. Every day is different, and it’s great being surrounded by people who share that passion.

How do you like to unwind after work?

Unsurprisingly, I’m usually still outdoors! I enjoy mountain biking, gravel riding and exploring new trails, but I also love hiking and climbing whenever I get the chance. Spending time outside is the best way for me to switch off and recharge.

Finally, what advice would you give to non or novice cyclists out there?

Don’t worry about what you’re riding or how far you can go, just get out and enjoy it. Start with rides that suit your ability, build your confidence gradually and don’t be afraid to ask for advice. A well-maintained bike, a comfortable helmet and a smile are all you really need to get started. Cycling is for everyone, and once you catch the bug, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner!
